DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.
For high end synchrotron radiation applications, the 3rd generation source PETRA III is available since 2009 as one of the most brilliant hard X-ray sources worldwide. The ”Variable Polarization XUV Beamline” (P04) is a world-class soft X-ray beamline at PETRA III. Besides having open ports for roll-in user experiments it serves a number of dedicated instruments set up by user-consortia in collaboration with the beamline team.
You will be in charge of operating the state-of-the-art variable polarization XUV beamline P04
You will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, optimization and automation of X-ray optics, beamline hardware, infrastructure and software with a special emphasis on the various scientific fields covered by the available techniques, such as ion spectroscopy, ARPES, XMCD, RIXS, soft X-ray diffraction and imaging methods, including X-ray holography and STXM
You will manage the support of external and internal user groups at P04 including the organization of regular dedicated workshops for the soft X-ray community at PETRA
You will manage the research programs utilizing soft X-rays at PETRA arid on enabling soft X-ray technologies
You will be leading a group of beamline scientists/postdocs and engineers
PhD in physics or a related field
Substantial experience in designing, installing and commissioning of soft to tender X-ray beamlines at 3rd generation synchrotron radiation sources
Substantial experience in one or more P04 related scientific fields
Substantial knowledge in conducting research in these fields
Interest in research directions exploiting the benefits of diffraction limited storage rings
Experience with beamline control software
Very good communication skills in English language
Excellent team player
