Abstract:

Building on many years of experience with glass fibers and thin display glass in opto-electronic systems, Fraunhofer IZM is actively pursuing utilization of industrial-grade, in-house technologies in packaging of quantum-photonic devices. The talk will focus on perspective of using optical waveguides buried in thin glasses as a future building block of chip-scale quantum optical sensors. Furthermore, we envision scalable manufacturing of passive micro-UHV chambers for cooling, trapping, and manipulation of ultra-cold neutral atoms and ions.

Optical clocks are the most precise device ever developed. Accurate and precise measurement of time is crucial for many applications such as optical communication, geodesy, navigation or study of fundamental physics. The wide array of applications make optical clocks attractive for industry. In this talk I present current status of optical clocks which are developed at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and perspectives for the near future.

Dr. Pustelny will give an overview of current work on magnetometry with atoms.
