OpTecBB e.V., the competence network for optical technologies in Berlin and Brandenburg, is pleased to welcome the Europe Office of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) as a new member.
Headquartered in Taiwan, ITRI is one of the world’s leading applied technology research institutes, employing over 6,500 people. Since its founding in 1973, ITRI has pursued the mission of promoting industrial development, economic value, and societal well-being through cutting-edge technology R&D. Over the past decades, ITRI has played a pivotal role in advancing the global semiconductor industry and has incubated some of Taiwan’s most successful companies, including TSMC, UMC, Epistar, and Taiwan Biomaterial Co.
ITRI Europe Office: Bridging Taiwan and Europe
ITRI’s Europe Office was inaugurated in 1996 to initiate and streamline cooperation with European R&D and innovation stakeholders. Initially focused on the machinery industry, its scope has expanded to smart manufacturing, ambient-assisted living, green ICT, renewable energy, healthcare services, and other cross-disciplinary innovations. The goal is to combine Taiwan’s ICT strength and commercialization speed with Europe’s innovation system and human-centered design approach, resulting in win-win collaborations. Together with Europe, ITRI acts as a bridge for research, development, and innovation (RDI) collaboration, addressing societal challenges while promoting economic growth in a smart, sustainable, and inclusive way.
Strengthening International Collaboration
By joining OpTecBB, ITRI seeks to build strong connections with the photonics and high-tech community in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. This partnership opens new opportunities for international collaboration, joint innovation, and knowledge exchange, marking an important step toward fostering research collaborations, cross-border innovation, and technological progress in key fields of the future.
